Sri Lanka to develop all-encompassing data system covering state-owned land
Dissanayake emphasized the need to prioritize programs that strengthen the roles of agriculture, livestock, land management, and irrigation in driving economic growth. These sectors are viewed as essential components of the government’s plan to eliminate rural poverty and better integrate rural populations into the national economy.
As per national statistics, around 26.4 percent of the workforce was employed in the agriculture sector during the third quarter of 2024.
